"But I ran a virus scanner on it and did not detect anything" We here this all the time, the fact is that 200 new viruses come out every month and they can get by your scanner once on your machine they will disable the virus scanners ability to detect them

"But I am running free software from Aol or Comcast"

This is another one we here all the time, the fact is that most virus scanners residing on someone else's server just cannot provide 100% protection.

Did you download a virus scanner from the internet promising to give you great protection just to find out that your computer is now getting worse and you are getting what appears to be system warnings that your machine is infected, and when you go to an internet site another site opens up such as ANTIVIRUS 2006 If so you are the victim of a smitfraud a program that tries to fake you into purchasing a bogus virus product that doesn't do anything
